As a truck driver, living on the road has its rewards and its challenges. Your truck cab is your office, and you should do whatever you can to make your life on the road a little better! As a truck driver, you face challenges most other people do not. On the road it can be difficult to maintain a proper diet and to exercise regularly, but if you can find opportunities to eat right and exercise, your body will thank you.

Get some sleep

Lack of sleep, apart from being a road safety hazard, is a health hazard. Your body needs a proper night’s sleep in order to operate at peak efficiency. Sleep deprivation not only increases the likelihood of accident and lowers cognitive abilities, but it also puts you at risk of heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes. Sleep deprivation has also been linked to depression and anxiety. At FCC, our drivers are our family, and we want them to be as healthy as possible, and as safe as possible.

Eat right

This is especially hard when on a run. Walking into a rest stop you are bombarded with sugary and fatty snacks and drinks. Truck stop food is also synonymous with greasy and fatty. When possible, go for baked over fried, and choose low fat options and healthy snacks. Maintaining a healthy diet will increase your overall energy levels and mood, and your body will thank you for it!

Exercise

When you stop to fill up, or top at a rest stop, make a point to do a lap around the place. Getting up and moving to get some blood flowing is important after driving all day. Exercise will increase your energy levels while raising your overall health. With naturally increased energy levels you can then start to cut back on sugary snacks and caffeine to stay awake.

At FCC we treat our drivers and all of our employees like family, and their health and wellbeing is extremely important to us! If you want to come work where you are a name and not a number, apply today or give us a call to speak with one of our recruiters.
