When you drive a truck across the country this summer, you probably hoping to find yourself in a beautiful place with something interesting to do. It might be hard to plan for a trip over the summer, however, if you know what you like to do in your downtime, you can prepare for anything. It helps to have a good idea of the most beautiful places to visit in the summer around the states, and we’re here to help!

California National Parks

If you find yourself in California near the Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, it is worth stopping in to see. The forest is referred to as the land of giants, due to the dramatic size of the redwoods. The park also is home to mountains and foothills, as well as canyons and a crystal cave.

There are lodges at the park if you prefer some amenities while visiting, but there are campgrounds available if you rather experience an outdoor adventure. Whatever your choice of accommodations, you will be exposed to an abundance of both plants and animals because the parks are considered International Biosphere Reserves because of the diversity.

Port Austin, Michigan

Does your route take you through Michigan? Consider a side trip to Port Austin. This town is on the banks of Lake Huron and is home to Turnip Rock, which is one of Michigan’s natural wonders. The best way to get to Turnip Rock is by kayak. It is a seven-mile trip in total, and the water around Turnip Rock is shallow so you can get out.

Turnip Rock developed after thousands of years of erosion due to the waves, but this is not all Port Austin has to offer. There are a nature center and arboretum, a marina, and state parks to consider visiting this summer.

Big Bend, Texas

If you are traveling through west Texas, you can’t help but hear about Big Bend. This national park sits in a desert landscape and hosts a diversity of species of both plants and animals. Dinosaur fossils and sea fossils make up the geological features of the park, as does the evidence of volcanic activity.

Big Bend features awe-inspiring rock formations, and you will have a large selection of activities to immerse yourself in this environment this summer. You might consider day hikes or backcountry trips. River trips or scenic drives are also an option. This area is fantastic for seeing the stars because of the distance away from visible lights from towns and cities.

Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida

Southern Florida has the most beautiful waters located in Key West. Key West is home to Dry Tortugas National Park. This park is remote and is about 100 square miles of open water with seven little islands.
The park is about 70 miles west of Key West, and you get there by ferry, private boat, or seaplane. If you want to stay overnight, which is an excellent idea if you like to see the stars at night, you can camp. However, only 68 people at a time can camp at the campground, which is terrific if you do not like being around a lot of people. You can reserve a group campsite before you go, too. Visiting the park is first-come, first-serve. This park is home to Fort Jefferson, coral reefs, and a lot of marine life. If you enjoy snorkeling, diving, or any other water adventure, consider planning a trip to Dry Tortugas National Park.

It’s essential to enjoy the summer months’ warmth and growth while you are on the road. Have another location worth visiting? Share it with FCC!
