Being married or in a relationship with a truck driver is very challenging. It’s demanding and a struggle, not only for you but for the truck driver in your life! As the spouse of a truck driver, what are the best ways to support them?

1. Focus on Trusting Your Spouse

Trust is the foundation of any marriage that will last. If you were married to your spouse before they became a driver, you likely trusted them – otherwise, you wouldn’t have got together! It can be a scary thought with your spouse continually being out and away from you, but they are working hard to provide for you and your family. It is important to give your spouse the benefit of the doubt. It’s also important to never give your trucker any reason to doubt their trust in you.

2. Be Intentional

Be sure to be intentional about staying in contact with your spouse! It can be difficult to be intentional about the time you spend with your spouse, whether it be via video chat or a phone call while they are on the road. Making sure to be intentional about the time you speak with your spouse while they are on the road, so they feel supported and cared about. They know you are taking time out of your day to make sure you are intentionally talking with them.

3. Be Flexible

It is important to be aware that many things can go wrong during a run. Don’t hold these incidents that he can’t control against them! It can be frustrating, but it is important to remember that they don’t always have control in whatever situation they are in, which is causing them to be late.
