Technology can be frustrating at times, but it has the ability to make life easier, too. Your phone’s app store is intimidating—the seemingly endless list of applications is tough to sort through. Fortunately, we’ll do the sorting for you with a list of apps most beneficial to truck drivers.

GasBuddy

GasBuddy helps drivers find cheap gas and tells them the best times to purchase gas during long trips. The app accesses your location services to find nearby gas stations and tracks your fuel, fuel economy and route to plan ahead and limit your fuel costs.

Trucker Path

This free app provides truck drivers with branded and independent truck stop locations, real-time parking availability, weigh stations and scales, diesel fuel prices and locations of Walmart’s and rest areas. Trucker path uses GPS and mapping to optimize a driver’s haul.

BigRoad Trucking Logbook

The BigRoad Truck Driver Log Book helps users easily log their hours on the road. This app also stores eLog documents, can cut and trim photos of documents and allows users to email reports and documents to avoid the hassle of paper.

Trucker Tools

App users can locate truck stops, weigh scales, Walmart’s, rest areas, monitor weather, and much more with this all-in-one free app. This app utilizes your location services to monitor services you may need along your route. Fuel prices are updated hourly, traffic is monitored in real-time, and coupons are readily available to help you save money during your haul.

Weather Bug

One of the more user-friendly weather applications, Weather Bug can help you monitor the weather ahead with simplicity. Its carousel scrolling feature allows you to easily find maps, the current, hourly, and 10-day weather. The real-time weather radar is displayed on the homepage, allowing you to easily find current weather patterns. In addition, the app allows users to add multiple locations via their location tab, allowing you to plan ahead for the future weather.

Co-Pilot Live Truck

Like Google Maps, but for truck drivers. Co-Pilot Live Truck takes in your truck size, weight and load type to make the route specific to your situation. The app then uses this information to alter routes if any roadblocks arise, such as congestion, construction, weather, or accidents.

FleetSafer Mobile

Distracted driving accounts for approximately 25 percent of all motor vehicles crash fatalities. A crash on the road can cause lasting damages to a driver’s career, potentially costing a driver their job. Fleetsafer blocks texts and emails while driving and sends an automated message to incoming emails, texts and calls that says “I’m driving.”

uShip Mobile

This app is popular with owner operators. uShip allows users to bid on hauls that people and businesses are in need of a driver. Drivers can search for nearby bids, or punch in a specific location to find nearby jobs, and notify them when their bid had been accepted or declined.

Allstay Hotel Search

Even though you have a sleeper cab, constantly sleeping in the same room you drive gets old from time-to-time. Allstay Hotel Search shows users nearby hotels, their prices, and money-saving deals if you wish to bunk in your own room for a night.

iExit Interstate Exit Guide

Truck drivers can easily locate driver friendly establishments for upcoming exits, as well as exits along the route. Instead of looking for upcoming signs, you can lean on the app for information instead. Some of the categories listed are fuel, lodging, shopping, restaurants and manner others, at each exit along your route.

TollSmart

TollSmart helps drivers of all varieties save money during their trip. The app notifies drivers of upcoming toll roads, their prices, and can even pre-calculate your toll expenses before the trip begins. Routes can easily be updated if the route needs altering along the way.
