There are many stereotypes that surround the trucking industry. These myths and misconceptions are often negative and without proper basis. They are often insulting and encourage misinformation about an entire group of people and industry. Today, we are going to set the record straight on some of these myths.

1. Only Men Can Be Truck Drivers

This is one of the biggest myths and definitely not true! The trucking industry is male dominated but more and more women are breaking into the industry. There are over 200,000 female truck drivers in the United States alone and these female drivers are statistically safer drivers than their male counterparts. Female drivers are an integral part of the trucking industry.

2. Truck Drivers Don’t Get Paid Much

Many people assume that truck drivers make a low salary; however, this is just not true. The average salary of a truck driver falls right around the national average salary. And many truck drivers are paid based on experience and driving skills. Things like a clean driving record will bump up salary over time and there is always demand for more truck drivers so you are guaranteed job security.

3. Drivers Are Overworked

There is an assumption that truck drivers are overworked and often tired. This is not the case! There are very strict laws in place that prevent truck drivers from being overworked for their safety as well as the safety of others on the road. Drivers are guaranteed the ability to rest and eat every single day.

4. There is No Time For Family

Although many truck drives work long hours and spend a lot of time away from home there is still plenty of time to spend with family. Sure some truck drivers can be out for weeks at a time but many truck drivers are able to get home for the weekend. Here at FCC, we work hard to make sure our drivers are home every weekend.

5. Truck Drivers Are Uneducated

Many truck drivers have college degrees that they obtain either before or after becoming a driver. There are even some reimbursement plans that allow truck drivers to go to college for little to no cost to them.
