The holiday season is often the busiest time of the year for truck drivers. It is an unfortunate reality that truckers are often away from home during the holidays. It can be difficult for truck drivers who aren’t able to spend the holidays with their families. We want to provide some tips on how to handle spending the holidays away from family as a truck driver.

Allow Yourself Flexibility

Allow yourself some flexibility as to when holiday activities take place. You can’t always control your schedule while you are on the road. Do your best not to commit to holiday activities that you won’t be able to make. And be flexible about the days on the calendar. If you are working on December 25th, choose a different day to celebrate Christmas as a family. Just because you are not home on a certain day does not mean you can’t celebrate that holiday together.

Technology

Something that is great about technology these days is you don’t have to just settle for a phone call anymore! Set check-in times to video chat with your family using Facetime, Skype, or another platform.

Bring the Holidays With You

Consider bringing some Holiday cheer with you! Play some carols while on the road or decorate your truck. Do whatever you can to bring the Holidays on the road with you!

Closing

Your cab is never going to replace being home for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the holidays while you are away from home.
